I found these circle boxes at the DI for dirt cheap.

I decided to dress them up a bit by adding some feet and paint. I glued the feet on with E-6000 glue.

Decide on a base coat. This will show through when you sand later on. I went with black.

Paint the boxes and lids the base color.

Once the base coat is dry, paint the main color over the box. I left the lids black.

To give my boxes more character, I added stripes in blue.

I also added some poka-dots. Once the paint is totally dry, sand the boxes to your liking. To give it one last umph, I wiped walnut stain over each box.

Add some decor around them. I added some birds.
